Starry Night over the Rhone (French: Nuit étoilée sur le Rhône ) is an oil painting by the Dutch painter Vincent van Gogh . It was created in September 1888 and depicts the banks of the Rhone in Arles at night. The painting is from Van Gogh's Arles period , as are several other well-known paintings by him.

The motive of the night sky appears repeatedly in van Gogh's paintings from this time on, as in the painted also in September 1888 in Arles Cafe Terrace at Night (fr. Terrasse du café le soir ) or in June 1889 in Saint-Remy-de-Provence incurred Starry Night (French: Nuit étoilée ).
