The Stardate is a popular science magazine for astronomy - and space issues . It is published by a network of currently 27 astronomical associations and observatories .

history

The sidereal time was in 1975 by five local astronomical clubs from the Ruhr established to the observation results of the members as well as the commitment to education to publish their clubs. Furthermore, the promotion of young authors and the public interest in astronomy were in view. The first issue was still called Communications of the Astronomical Associations , but from the second issue the magazine got its current name.

Other associations from all over Germany quickly joined the local association. In 1977 there were already 14 associations, and by 2006 the number had grown to 37 so-called co-editors. The editorial processing of the contributions initially changed from club to club, until the increasing workload in the 1990s made permanent editorial work necessary. In addition, participation changed to the point that individually active hobby astronomers outside of the association submit astrophotos and themed articles.

For administrative reasons, Sternzeit 2009 had to reorganize itself into a registered association (eV). Of the five founding associations, the Volkssternwarte Bonn , the Astronomical Association Dortmund and the Walter Horn Society Solingen are still there. All Sternzeit employees are volunteer members of Sternzeit e. V.
