In anatomy and histology, various cell types are referred to as star cells :

  • Astrocyte (also called a spider cell ), numerically the most significant part of the Neuroglia
  • specific interneuron in specific layers of the cerebral cortex
  • Ito cell, see liver # Fine structure of the liver , which stores and activates vitamin A in the liver and plays a role in the development of liver cirrhosis
  • Grain cell , with a spherically branched dendrite tree, is called a star cell
  • Kupffer cell (old name Kupffer star cell ), special form of phagocytes that rests on the sinusoids of the liver
  • Pancreatic star cell , which stores and activates vitamin A in the pancreas, plays a role in the development of pancreatic tumors
  • Star cell (cerebellum) , not axially structured, inhibitory interneuron in the stratum molecularulare of the cerebellar cortex, which functions as switching cells, see cerebellum
