Steven Ricks

Steve L. Ricks (* 1969 ) is an American composer and music teacher.

After training as a trombonist, Ricks studied at Brigham Young University , the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and the University of Utah . With a scholarship from the University of Utah, he obtained the Certificate of Advanced Musical Studies at King's College London in 2000 . His teachers included Morris Rosenzweig , Harrison Birtwistle , Bill Brooks, and Michael Hicks . In 1999 he received first prize at the SCI / ASCAP Student Composition Competition .

Ricks' works have been performed by ensembles and musicians such as the California EAR Unit , the New York New Music Ensemble , the Earplay group , the Talujon Percussion Quartet , flautist Rachel Rudich , pianist Ian Pace and violinist Curtis Macomber . Ricks has taught music theory and composition at Brigham Young University since 2007 and is the director of their electronic music studio.
