Lists on the subject

The Steyr SSG 69 is a precision rifle that was developed in 1969 by Steyr Mannlicher in the 7.62 × 51 mm NATO caliber for the Austrian Armed Forces . The abbreviation SSG 69 stands for sniper rifle and the year 1969 was introduced.

The rifle was widely used by the military and the police in Syria , Israel , Great Britain , Iceland , Germany and Austria .

In 1970 a first civil version was produced based on the SSG 69. It was optionally available with a plastic or wooden shaft. Almost forty years after its appearance, the rifle is still very popular in sports shooting circles, although more modern weapons now exist for sporting use.

In the "P1" version, the precision weapon has a green barrel, which is why it was given the nickname "Green Gun". It also has an almost legendary reputation for its precision, even if its handiness is often criticized.

In addition to the standard type "P1", the SSG 69 is available in other versions - for example: "P2" (119 cm long, heavier barrel "Heavy Barrel", black stock, without open sights, also called "Model Police") or "P4" (with silencer). The weapon is also available in .243 Winchester and (P2 only) in .22-250 Remington .

Passive and active night vision devices are often used for business purposes.

Other precision rifles from Steyr Mannlicher are: " Scout ", " Elite ", " HS.50 ", " SSG 04 " and " SSG 08 ".
