Stick (tobacco)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

As a stick is called in sleeves handled finely cut tobacco . Because sticks were taxed less than finished cigarettes , they were a cheaper alternative to finished cigarettes in the 1990s and early 2000s. Sticks were sold in cans or cardboard boxes and could not be smoked in this form. To do this, the tobacco from the individual stick first had to be pressed into a cigarette tube with the help of a small tool ( cigarette tamper or pencil) .

According to a ruling by the European Court of Justice on November 10, 2005 (Ref .: C-197/04), sticks (also called single packs) are also taxed at the normal cigarette tax rate, as they are considered to be half-finished cigarettes. After the ruling came into force, sticks soon disappeared from the cigarette market.
