The pin Tilbeck is a facility for living and working in the outskirts of Havixbeck . The Tilbeck campus and the outdoor living groups are operated by Stift Tilbeck GmbH .

Here women and men with mild to severe intellectual disabilities live together in a village-like atmosphere in various forms of living.

The two "old" buildings, "Gertrud" and "Hildegard", as well as the chapel and the water tower form a spatial unit.

history

During the time of National Socialism , sterilization based on the National Socialist Hereditary Health Act was carried out in what was then the “Heilanstalt Stift Tilbeck” , without the consent of those affected or of custodians. Reports about it came from several parishes in the diocese of Münster. Most of the cases, related to all homes in the diocese, namely 46 sterilizations, occurred here, according to sources that were collected in 1946 and 1977.

Tilbeck Abbey as an excursion destination

Tilbeck Abbey is a popular destination for cyclists. Located on the edge of the tree mountains, it offers a café and a small zoo, populated by goats, geese, ducks and other birds.

The Tilbeck Barefoot Walk, a barefoot path that offers a varied landscape over around three kilometers and can of course be walked barefoot , is known nationwide. Different surfaces make this a special experience.
