The Essen Stiftsschule is a municipal primary school in the Stadtwald district of Essen . It goes back to a school founded in 1678.
history
The history of the collegiate school began with a document dated September 7th, 1678: Wilhelm Franz Freiherr von Vittinghoff called Schell , from the family of hereditary droplets of the Essen monastery resident in Schloss Schellenberg , donated 600 Reichstaler , the interest of which was to pay a teacher; he was also the organist of the Rellinghausen collegiate church. Interest income from the foundation capital is recorded up to the last budget of the municipality of Rellinghausen before its incorporation (1910). The first school building on Stiftsplatz next to the Lambertus Church has been preserved.
The population growth in the 19th century, mainly caused by immigration of workers for the emerging coal mining industry, made it necessary to move to larger buildings in 1823 and 1860. In 1959 the school was moved to a new building in the neighboring Stadtwald district.
The collegiate school was a Catholic elementary school throughout . Protestant pupils were taught in Essen- Überruhr until 1827 , then in the Ardey School in Essen- Rellinghausen (so-called since 1938) . In 1968 there were two major changes: Catholic and Protestant schools were merged to form community schools, and elementary schools were divided into primary and secondary schools.
The collegiate school became a community elementary school for the city forest, the Ardey school for Rellinghausen.
