Dayer Uberney Quintana Rojas (born August 10, 1992 in Cómbita ) is a Colombian cyclist . He is the younger brother of Nairo Quintana (* 1990).
Career
Dayer Quintana wanted to emulate his brother in sporting terms, and Nairo Quintana supported him.
As an 18-year-old, he drove in a U23 team that was sponsored by the local police. In order to get paid, Quintana had to sign up as a police officer. However, the agreement that the team's drivers would not have to go to the police force was broken. Quintana had to work as a police officer for 18 months; He was banned from training and racing. Only after his older brother had connections to the mayor of Tunja was he released from the police force and was able to concentrate on his cycling career again. His brother also got him a contract with the Spanish team Lizarte during this time .
For the 2014 season he switched to his brother's Spanish ProTeam Movistar . For this team he won a stage of the Tour of Austria in 2014 , the overall ranking of the Tour de San Luis in 2016 and a stage of his home tour of Colombia Oro y Paz in 2018 .
