History and goals
Pestalozzianum was established on February 2, 1875 as a school museum by decision of the school administration of the city of Zurich. Equipped with a specialist library and a reading room, the collection should include all school materials in Switzerland. For the Swiss Teachers' Day in Zurich in 1878, an exhibition on the life and work of Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi was organized , which was later set up as a permanent exhibition in the so-called "Pestalozzi-Stübchen" with further documents. In 1891 the institute was renamed Pestalozzianum - Institute for the Promotion of Schools and Education and Pestalozzi Research in Zurich ; The Pestalozzianum Foundation followed in 1902 . The Pestalozzianum expanded its specialist library to include a collection of teaching materials such as slides and murals for primary school lessons. Since 1927 it developed further offers; in the same year the company moved to the Beckenhof in Zurich-Unterstrass . Since 1955 , it has significantly promoted the development of the Zurich elementary school . In March 2000, the Zurich University of Education ( PHZ) was founded, into which all educational institutes in the Canton of Zurich were integrated in 2002.
