The Social City Foundation - community foundation for a social city - is a non-profit foundation in Dortmund . It was founded in 2010 and is registered under the order number 21.13.01.02-483 in the foundation register for the state of North Rhine-Westphalia .

The name is derived from the federal-state program Social City , which has been implemented in Dortmund since 2007 as the "Social City Action Plan". This is "a cross-sectional task of all political and administrative areas with the aim of creating framework conditions throughout the city - but especially in the 13 action areas - in order to eliminate social inequalities."

The first donor is the non-profit association Planerladen eV , which has existed since 1982 in the city district of Innenstadt Nord (Nordstadt). The foundation is a partner in the employment and qualification company GrünBau gGmbH and the integration company for people with disabilities GrünBau Inklusiv gGmbH and is also based there “Alliance of Social City”.

According to the foundation's self-image, "the creation of (sponsored) work and the promotion of school and professional qualifications are key to promoting economic justice." Correspondingly, 15 of the 19 funded projects have been or will be linked to education, employment and qualification measures. The largest funding measure so far was the purchase and renovation of a so-called scrap or problem property in the north of the city in connection with an employment project and in cooperation with the municipal DOGEWO21 . For the successful renovation of the residential building Brunnenstr. 51 the foundation was awarded the “Social City 2014” prize in Berlin. Federal Minister Barbara Hendricks also visited the building on an information trip on projects of the Social City funding program.
