The Stihl Tirol GmbH (until 2018: Viking GmbH ) is an Austrian manufacturer of gardening tools . The company develops, produces and sells lawn mowers, robotic lawn mowers, ride-on mowers, garden shredders, tillers and scarifiers.

Viking was a wholly owned subsidiary of the German company Stihl , and also carries out parts of the series assembly for some Stihl brand devices .

history

In 1981 Viking was founded in Kufstein as a manufacturer of garden shredders. In 1984 Viking developed its own line of lawn mowers. In 1992 the company was taken over by the German mechanical engineering company Stihl.

In July 2018 the company was renamed Stihl Tirol GmbH . The devices have been marketed under the name Stihl since 2019 ; the color is now also the orange from Stihl.

Sales / markets

The company sells the garden tools it produces exclusively through specialist retailers (11,000 specialist dealers across Europe).

The company's export share has been consistently high for several years at 97 to 98%, and the products are sold in around 60 countries. The most important export markets are Germany , France , Benelux , Russia , Poland , Great Britain , Norway and Sweden .
