Is our blue planet dying? was the name of a popular science television program that was broadcast on Second German Television in 1974 . It was moderated by the physicist and science journalist Heinz Haber . In each of the twelve episodes, Haber shed light on problems in contemporary human history, which he described in his book of the same name, Die Our Blaue Planet? The natural history of our overpopulated earth had published. In it he warned of the consequences of uncontrolled global population growth and the associated progressive pollution and destruction, the problems of an adequate food and energy supply on earth, and pointed to the limits of technological progress and economic growth . At the same time he complained about the lack of willingness to act on the part of political officials in combating these problems and indirectly questioned the future viability of mankind as inhabitants of the earth.

The half-hour program was initially broadcast on Thursday at 4:30 p.m., later it was given a new program slot on Sunday afternoon. All twelve episodes were repeated from November 1974 to April 1975 in the joint morning program of ARD and ZDF .
