Fabric sample archive of the New Augsburger Kattunfabrik

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The fabric sample archive of the Neue Augsburger Kattunfabrik (also known as the NAK archive ) is an economic archive in Augsburg .

It comprises around 1.3 million fabric samples from the former fabric printing company Neue Augsburger Kattunfabrik (NAK) in 580 sample books and over 80,000 sample drawings. Also included are color samples, written historical sources, tools and paintings. A collection of this kind, the compilation of which began as early as 1792, is considered unique worldwide. In addition to its own products, the fabric sample archive also includes textiles from other Central European fabric printing companies.

The NAK archive was acquired in 1996 by the city of Augsburg from the bankruptcy estate of the company and was then stored in the Augsburg city archive. It was included in the directory of nationally valuable archives . With the opening of the State Textile and Industry Museum, the fabric sample archive was included as a central part of the exhibition there.
