Stop That Train (in German "Stop [t] this train") is a song by Bob Marley and his band The Wailers . It was releasedas the fourth of nine songson the studio album Catch a Fire (1973).

Stop That Train is a composition by Peter Tosh , who also sings the song himself. Marley and Bunny Wailer do the backing vocals. The song was an integral part of the concerts on the 1973 tour.

The album version is in the key of G major ; The song was also played in G major during the live performances. The duration of the album version is just under four minutes. The song was also part of the album Best of The Wailers , which was released as a compilation on CD in 1998 . It was recorded between 1969 and 1970 in Kingston, Jamaica. The song had a length of 2:18 minutes.

Tosh re-recorded the song for his solo album Mama Africa (1983). The length is also about four minutes and the key is also G major. The lyrics are almost identical; however, the musical line-up differs significantly. In addition, the pace is noticeably higher.

The song is about a lonely man who is looking for a little more happiness in his life. He feels misunderstood by his own people, so he wants to stop the train and ride on, not knowing whether this is a good or a bad decision. Some go east, some west, others try to master their lives on site, but life is hard and there is not enough to eat for everyone.
