The Storchengasse is a street in the old town of Zurich left the Limmat . It runs parallel to the river from the Münsterhof in a northerly direction to the Weinplatz .

Surname

Because of the local handicrafts, the street used to be called Schmiedgasse and was also known as Hauptgasse . In 1771 it was given its current name, which is derived from the Gasthof zum Storchen of the same name , which verifiably existed as early as 1471 and is still today under the name Hotel Storchen Zurich at number 16 in the street that has since been named after him.

history

In the 17th and 18th centuries, Storchengasse was considered the " Bahnhofstrasse " of the "lesser town" to the left of the Limmat.

The Swiss writer Hugo Loetscher (1929–2009) lived in house number 6 on Storchengasse for decades .
