building

The stork center is housed in the building of the former hospital Zum heiligen Kreuz , built in 1869 . Until 1868 the church hospital had its seat on Vetschauer Hospitalplatz , but then burned down completely. The reconstruction by a charitable foundation took place at today's place in Drebkauer Straße . A board of trustees consisting of the city pastor, senior pastor and mayor was in charge. In the 1920s, it was converted into a kindergarten run by two deaconess sisters. In 1943, during the Nazi era , it was expropriated. The building was badly damaged in 1945 during the Second World War . With the help of the population, it was rebuilt in 1947 and used as a kindergarten. In 1991, NABU took over the building and converted it into a stork center in 1994.
