Well on the Stortorget

The Stortorgsbrunnen is a fountain in the historic old town of Stockholm Gamla Stan .

It is located in the southern part of the Stortorget , the large square in the northern part of the old town.

The fountain was built by Erik Palmstedt in 1778 . It served to supply the population with water and has a wrought-iron handle on each of the four sides of the well house and a mouth hole designed as a lion's head, from which the water exits. The fountain house is crowned by an urn.
