Story cubes

Story Cubes is a dice game from the publisher Gamewright and later The Creativity Hub, which is supposed to encourage storytelling. It was first published in 2005, followed by several new editions and versions in different languages.

The game consists of nine dice . Various symbols are printed on the sides of the dice (e.g. a castle, a key, an airplane). The aim of the game is, after you have rolled all the dice at once, to tell a story from the pictures. To do this, a person begins with one of the cube pictures to freely invent a story that relates to his cube picture. After starting the story with the first dice picture, the next player takes over by choosing one of the remaining dice pictures and telling the story further. So the group goes through all nine cube pictures, with the last cube pictures being careful that the story is nearing an end. In the true sense of the word, Story Cubes is not a game, but rather a method of telling imaginative stories. The game is partly based on games like Linq and Dixit .

Story Cubes is suitable for ages six and up. There are different themed versions of the game.
