The Stowarzyszenie Artystów i Zwolenników Sztuk Pięknych (German: Association of Artists and Patrons of Fine Arts ) was founded in 1916 in Łódź .

history

Abraham Behrmann (1876–1942) and Artur Szyk (1894–1951) were the founders of the association. The architect Henryk Lewinson was elected as the first president, other board members were the painter and educator Andrzej Pronaszko and the journalist Heinrich Zimmermann.

In 1918 the organization held two exhibitions - in spring ("Wystawa Wiosna") and in winter ("Wystawa Zimowa"). Mostly Jewish artists were presented. At the first exhibition, the works of 28 artists of German or Polish descent were shown. So put Jankel Adler at the Winter Show (21 November 1918 to 22 January 1919) from. The following year, an exhibition was held at the Warsaw Association of Jewish Authors and Journalists (Polish: Związek Żydowskich Literatów i Dziennikarzy ) at ul.Tłomackie , then in the parish hall on Grzybowski Square (Plac Grzybowski), also in Warsaw. The last exhibition took place in 1923 at the Jewish Society for the Promotion of Art (Polish: Żydowskie Towarzystwo Krzewienia Sztuk Pięknych ). At times, the association's offices and exhibition rooms were located at ulica Piotrkowska 71 .

Many members of the association joined the Jewish artist group Jung Jidysz .
