It existed from May 31, 1884 to May 23, 1895 as a horse-drawn tram with a gauge of 1435 mm between the Store Torv and Jernbanestationen stations.
In September 1903, the Aarhus Elektriske Sporvej company was founded. The company operated an electric tram with a gauge of 1000 mm on various lines from July 7, 1904 to November 7, 1971. Three motor coaches and four sidecars have been preserved in the Skjoldenæsholm Tram Museum.
