Road maintenance specialists collect road damage caused by the effects of weather such as heat and cold, but also by constant use. As a result, they are renovating the road substructure and the road surface. At the same time, they produce drainage systems, apply road markings, renew paintwork and traffic signs, green embankments and maintain shrubs and trees and are also active in clearing snow. Road maintenance specialists mostly work in teams, in shifts and in all weathers. When working in the public road administration ( road maintenance department ), they also check the safety of the traffic areas and are in close contact with authorities and emergency organizations.

The apprenticeship period is three years. In the dual system, apprentices are mostly trained by road construction or road maintenance companies and the public road administration.
