Strana slovenskej obrody (German: Party of Slovak Revival ), abbreviated SSO, was a Slovak political bloc party in Czechoslovakia and the successor party to the broken Demokratická strana . It existed from 1948 to 1989.

Background of the creation

After the Demokratická strana won a considerable victory in the parliamentary elections in the Slovak part of the country in 1946 , it was under strong pressure from the communist KSS and was then liquidated as such after the February coup in 1948. From the remnants of the party, the new Strana slovenskej obrody was constituted on March 24, 1948.

SSO as a bloc party

Until 1989 the party was part of the so-called National Front , an amalgamation of the Communist Party and all bloc parties, but was only represented in Slovakia. Its highest body was the Slovak conference.

After the so-called Velvet Revolution of 1989, it was officially dissolved and re-established on December 10, 1989 under the old name Demokratická strana. The connection to the traditions from 1946 to 1948 did not succeed, however, and in 2006 it merged with the Slovenská Demokratieická a kresťanská únia - Demokratická strana .
