Beach boat

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Beach boat (also Schörboot or Schörer ) is an old type of ship, especially on the Baltic coast of Western Pomerania . The covered boat was used for coastal fishing and was in use until around 1930. It was then replaced by motorized fishing trawlers . The one-masted beach boat was sailed. The rigging varied from region to region and was also based on the size of the beach boats. Up to the beginning of the 19th century both loose and fixed lug sails were used , later also spriet and gaff sails . A preserved beach boat can now be viewed in the Stralsund Marine Museum .
