Strategic Air and Space Museum
The Strategic Air and Space Museum is an aviation museum in Ashland , Nebraska .
history
The museum was founded in 1959 as the Strategic Aerospace Museum on Offutt Air Force Base , but was soon renamed the Strategic Air Command Museum . As such, it documented the history of Strategic Air Command and exhibited many of the aircraft flown by the SAC. In 1998 the SAC Museum moved to the place where it is still located today, in a 30 million expensive, approx. 3000 m² building near Ashland, directly on Interstate 80 . In 2001 the name was changed again, since then the museum has been called Strategic Air and Space Museum .

A Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird is shown in an atrium . In two halls, the museum also presents aircraft from the Second World War and the Cold War , including:

- a Boeing B-47E Stratojet
- a Boeing B-52 Stratofortress
- a Convair B-58 Hustler

financing
The museum is a private non-profit organization , so it does not receive any government funding. The museum is financed to more than 70% by entrance fees, sales in the museum shop and membership fees of the museum club as well as the rental of the museum for larger events.
