Stratton Brook State Park is a state park in the US state of Connecticut in the area of the Simsbury community .
description
The park was originally called Massacoe State Forest . It was designed as a training area for fighting wildfire along railway lines. Later the railroad tracks were removed and the route converted into a cycle path. Today the park offers picnicking, fishing, swimming, hiking, biking, skiing, and ice fishing. There is also a nature conservation center in the park that is open seasonally. The Stratton Brook drains the park and flows into the Hop Brook , which flows into the Farmington River . In 1935 the popular Massaco Forest Pavilion was built by the Civilian Conservation Corps . The proximity to Hartford makes the park a popular destination. In 1996, it was the first Connecticut park to be completely wheelchair accessible. The Darling-Hilles Memorial Forest adjoins the park in the northeast.
