The Strausberger gate tower is located as part of the former city fortifications in Altlandsberg , a city in the state of Brandenburg , district of Märkisch-Oderland .

The 22 meter high tower was built in the middle of the 14th century to give the citizens easy access to their fields and the urban forest. In the Middle Ages , the building was used as a prison and police station. In 1820, the structure was expanded to include additional cells, in which an extension was made after the demolition of the gate in the northern area. The tower with the distinctive conical roof received a stork wheel in 1897 . Storks have been nesting there ever since . It is considered the city's landmark and has been featured on the city's coat of arms since 1947.
