The expression streptomycetes , also streptomycetes (ancient Greek στρεπτομύκητες, "necklace mushrooms", from στρεπτός "necklace" and μύκης mýkēs "mushroom", refers to the spore chains) is ambiguous. The following different bacteria - taxa are named:
