Strontium unit

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The strontium unit ( symbol : SU ) is a measure of the strontium-90 content in the body.

1 SU = 1 picocurie / gram calcium = 37 Becquerel / kilogram calcium

Larger amounts of strontium 90 are released into the environment in all nuclear disasters and above-ground nuclear weapons tests. Strontium is chemically similar to calcium and is therefore easily incorporated into bones.
