Rainer Josef Jung (born July 12, 1943 in Saarbrücken ) is a retired German major general . D.

Military career and studies

Promotions

Jung came in 1962 in the engineer battalion 4 of the Army of the Armed Forces in arc one. In 1963/64 he was trained as a pioneer platoon leader at the Pioneers Army School ("Army Academy for Civil Engineering"). He was then used as a platoon leader in the Mountain Pioneer Battalion 8. From 1967 to 1972 he studied civil engineering at the Technical University of Munich (Diplom-Ingenieur (TH) 1972). His diploma thesis was awarded by the Main Association of the German Construction Industry . From 1972 to 1975 he was company commander in the Mountain Pioneer Battalion 8 in Brannenburg.

From 1975 to 1977 he completed the 18th general staff course (H) at the command academy of the Bundeswehr (FüAkBw) in Hamburg. After brief employment there, he attended a course at the DSCC-Wellington Indian Defense Services Staff College in Wellington (India) and studied at the University of Madras (Master of Science in Defense Studies 1979). 1979/80 he was G2 (Head of General Staff Department 2 Military Intelligence) of the 1st Airborne Division in Bruchsal and from 1980 to 1982 in Ottobrunn. From 1982 to 1984 he was commander of the 10th Pioneer Battalion in Ingolstadt and division pioneer leader of the 10th Panzer Division . From 1984 to 1987 he was a consultant at the command staff of the Army (Fü H VII 1) in Bonn. From 1987 to 1989 he was Deputy General of Army Armaments and Group Leader III 1 in the Army Office in Cologne. From 1989 to 1992 he was the commander of the tank brigade 14 "Hessischer Löwe" in Neustadt / Hessen.

In 1992 he became head of staff department at Fü H VI. From 1995 to 1998 he was Commander Military Area VI and Commander of the 1st Mountain Division in Munich. In 1998 he became Chief of Staff in the Allied Command Baltic Approaches (BALTAP) in Karup. In 2000/01 he was general for national and territorial tasks at the Army Command (HFüKdo) in Koblenz.

Others

From 2002 to 2006 he was Managing Director of the Clausewitz Society .

In 2007 he was elected to the Board of Trustees of the Technical University of Munich.

He is married.
