Stepping

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The beating of stages in ice or hard corn snow is a technique of mountaineering and useful if the slope is inclined only moderately and you no Grödeln or none at higher slope crampons with front points is available. Depending on the hardness of the ground (ice or firn), the steps are hit with a pick or the shovel of an ice ax . The angle of the steps is chosen somewhat towards the slope.
