The facility near Järämä (near Kilpisjärvi ) consisted of trenches , machine gun and PAK positions, and observation posts. The position was established from 1942 by pioneers of the German army and engineers from the Todt organization with the help of mostly Soviet prisoners of war. A total of 3000 men were involved in the construction of this line. The ram position served to protect the Arctic ports in occupied Norway .

In October 1944 the defense line was occupied by the 7th Mountain Division with 12,000 soldiers as part of the Finnish-German Lapland War. After the retreat of the German troops from Northern Norway and Petsamo , the storm ram position was evacuated without a fight in early January 1945.

The system was restored over a length of 1200 meters. There are replicas of various wooden huts and shelters as well as trenches and an artillery position with a German 75 mm anti-tank gun in the Järämä open-air museum.
