Subandrio
Subandrio (also Soebandrio ; born September 15, 1914 in Kepanjen , East Java , † July 3, 2004 in Jakarta ) was Indonesian Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister under President Sukarno . After the alleged coup attempt by the G30S in 1965, he spent 29 years in prison.
Life
Subandrio was born in Kepanjen, East Java. As a medical student he was active in the independence movement and during World War II he teamed up with anti-Japanese resistance fighters.
After the war ended in 1945, he became a supporter of the nationalist leader Sukarno and sent to Europe as a special envoy. From 1954 to 1956 he was ambassador to the Soviet Union .
