Submentum

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The submentum (lat. Mentum = "chin") is the lowest part of the basal, fused section of the lower lip ( labium ) of the insect and thus part of the mouthparts . It passes over into the mentum and, like all other components of the mouthparts, can be designed very differently depending on the type and group.
