Philips Angel (van Middelburg)
Philips Angel (van Middelburg) (born September 14, 1616 in Middelburg ; † October 22, 1683 ibid) was a Dutch still life painter .

Angel was possibly a pupil of Francois Rijkhals (1600–1647), in 1639 became a member of the Haarlem Guild of St. Luke and in 1643 its secretary. From 1662 until his death he worked again in Middelburg. Around 30 paintings are ascribed to him today, which can be divided into three groups, still life-like interiors of cattle stalls , still lifes with set tables called " ontbijties " (breakfasts) and finally poultry still lifes. In particular, the modest “onbijties” are part of the Haarlem still life tradition and are considered to be the best works of Angel.
