The Subsea 7 pipeline bundle fabrication site is a 1978 commissioned in shell and tube production plant of the company Subsea 7 for the production of submarine pipelines on a meter gauge - railway line at Wick in the county of Caithness in Scotland .

business

In the production facility at Wick, bundles of tubes consisting of several pipes and cables in a steel jacket are manufactured on the bogies of the narrow-gauge railway . At the ends of each pipeline there is a control station with control devices and valves that correspond to the respective application. After welding the pipelines, integrating them into the bundle and performing the non-destructive testing and pressure test , the up to 7.7 km long tube bundles are pulled into the bay near Wick with a deep- sea tug. From there, they are hovering at a certain water depth with two tugs to the location west of Shetland ( Controlled Depth Tow Method ), laid on the seabed and put into operation. Since 1978, more than 70 pipeline systems have been welded on the production facility.
