Suburban. Journal for Critical Urban Research ( own writing : sub \ urban, journal for critical urban research ) is a German-language scientific and critical magazine for urban research . The open access journal , which has been published since 2013, is published by the journal's editorial team and the sub \ urban e association. V.

organization

The magazine is a publication project for an interdisciplinary debate on critical urban research. A workshop to found the magazine took place on October 18th and 19th, 2012 in Berlin .

The magazine has so far only been published as an online magazine and is openly accessible . As usual for scientific journals, the editorial work is supported by a scientific advisory board. Submitted articles go through a double-blind peer review process before publication . In addition to scientific articles, debates by several authors characterize the exchange-oriented format of the journal. Additional perspectives and articles are published in magazine articles and reviews. The editors provide information via their newsletter, which can be subscribed to on the magazine's homepage.

As can already be seen in the position paper, the magazine sees itself in a "left positioning" . As can be seen in the imprint of individual issues, the magazine wiederkehre receives funding from the party-affiliated Rosa Luxemburg Foundation .

Project

First, the magazine has set itself the goal of promoting the exchange of different disciplinary approaches to urban research. Second, it wants to stimulate reflection on critical approaches in urban research and critical practices. Thirdly, it is a concern of the journal to engage in transdisciplinary and beyond the boundaries of scientific debates with actors of social movements, urban actors and other people.
