Sufetula ( Arabic سفيطلة, DMG Sbeitla ) was an ancient city in North Africa in the Roman province of Africa proconsularis or Byzacena in late antiquity near today's Sbeitla in Tunisia .

During the Roman Empire, Sufetula became a flourishing city that lasted until late antiquity when it became the seat of a bishop ( the titular bishopric of the Roman Catholic Church of the same name goes back to the diocese ). The rebellious exarch Gregory of Carthage made the city his residence; it perished in the year 647 during the Arab conquest.
