The Sukuma people (formerly Wasukuma or Wassukuma ) have their settlement area on the south bank of Lake Victoria in Tanzania . About three million people live here. The Sukuma are one of the largest ethnic groups in Tanzania, they make up about 13 percent of the total population. There is a relationship with the Nyamwezi people . Mwanza is an important center of Sukuma .

language

The Sukuma speak the Bantu language named after them, Sukuma . There are approximately 5.4 million L1 speakers. Sukuma is written using the Latin writing system .

economy

The Sukuma predominantly practice agriculture, fishing and cattle breeding.
