Sulfenyl halides are a group of substances in organic chemistry with the general formula R – S – Hal, more precisely they are halides of sulfenic acid (R – S – OH). The sulfenyl chlorides (R – S – Cl) class of substances in particular are of preparative importance. Trichloromethanesulfenyl chloride (Cl 3 C-S-Cl) is an example. Chlorocarbonylsulfenyl chloride (Cl – CO – S – Cl), a derivative of carbonic acid, is also useful in preparation .
