Sulinus
Sulinus , son of Brucetus, was a Roman sculptor who worked in Britain . He is one of the few sculptors known by name in a Roman province. The name appears on two altars found at Aquae Sulis (now Bath ) and Corinium Dobunnorum . It is believed that Sulinus worked in the latter city, for which a sculptor's workshop is also assumed.
The inscription from Bath:
" Sulevis / Sulinus / scul (p) tor / Bruceti f (ilius) / sacrum f (ecit) l (ibens) m (erito) "
" Suleviae , sculptor, son of Brucetus, made this sacred sacrifice with pleasure and merit."
The inscription from Corinium Dobunnorum:
" Sule (v) is / Sulinus / Bruceti / v (otum) s (olvit) l (ibens) m (erito) "
"Sulinus, (son of) Brucetus, gladly and meritoriously felt his vow on the Suleviae."
