Summer Jam at Watkins Glen

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Summer Jam at Watkins Glen (also sometimes called the Watkins Glen Festival ) was an event that long held the Guinness Book of Records "Most Listeners at a Pop Festival " . Up to 600,000 visitors flocked to the Watkins Glen Grand Prix Raceway in the US state of New York on July 28, 1973 . 150,000 tickets were sold for US $ 10 each. All other fans, however, paid no entry. The Grateful Dead , The Band and The Allman Brothers Band were the stars of this concert, in which twelve sound towers were erected. The length of the appearances was unusual. The Grateful Dead played five hours, the Allman Brothers Band four hours, and The Band three hours. Occasionally, however, there were also jam sessions for all the musicians involved.
