Sunbelt Personal Firewall

The Sunbelt Personal Firewall (SPF) was a personal firewall for Microsoft Windows. The software was previously sold under the name Kerio Personal Firewall and Sunbelt Kerio Personal Firewall and was ultimately discontinued in May 2011.

The Sunbelt Personal Firewall is available for Windows XP (Home, Professional and Media Center Edition), Windows 2000 Professional and, since version 4.6, also for Windows Vista . The Windows 98 and ME operating systems were no longer supported since version 4.2. 64-bit versions of Windows were also not supported. The program was distributed as shareware , which could be used for the first 30 days without any functional restrictions. After that, the software could either be purchased or used as a limited edition. The free version lacked content filters, host-based IDS , remote maintenance access and the option of using the firewall on a router .

The firewall came from the Tiny Personal Firewall . The company Kerio Technologies Inc . acquired the rights to the product, developed it further and published the final version 2.1 in March 2002 under the name Kerio Personal Firewall . The software was freeware . With version 4, the range of functions of Kerio was greatly expanded in 2003 and a commercial version was introduced. In September 2005, Kerio stopped developing the product. Kerio employees justified this in the product forum with the fact that the firewall was not profitable. A company spokesman said Kerio wanted to focus on developing the Kerio MailServer and WinRoute Firewalls . In December 2005 the Kerio Personal Firewall was taken over by the company Sunbelt Software . The software was initially available from Sunbelt under the name Sunbelt Kerio Personal Firewall . In April 2007 the name was changed to Sunbelt Personal Firewall . Sunbelt has been selling a modified version since 2013 under the name Vipre Internet Security.
