The Sunni mosque ( Russian Суннитская мечеть Sunnitskaja metschet ; also known as Muchtarow Mosque , Russian Мечеть Мухтарова Metschet Muchtarowa ; Ossetian Мухтаровы мӕзджыт Muxtarovy mæzdžyt ) is located in the capital of the Russian Republic of North Ossetia-Alania Vladikavkaz .

The Azerbaijani oil industrialist Murtusa Muchtarow (1865–1920) had the mosque built between 1906 and 1908. It is therefore also known as the Muchtarow Mosque. It was built by the Polish architect Józef Płoszko (1867–1931; Russian Iossif Ploschko, also Plaschko), who worked mainly in Baku until the First World War . RI Doleschal was responsible for the interior design.

The mosque was supposed to be demolished in 1934, but was then preserved, converted into a branch of the local museum of local history (Krajewedtscheski musei) and placed under monument protection in 1960. In 1996 the mosque was returned to the Spiritual Administration of the Muslims of North Ossetia.
