SuperCPU

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The SuperCPU is an accelerator card for the C64 and C128 home computers , which was originally developed and manufactured by the US company Creative Micro Designs (CMD). With this card, which is connected to the expansion port of the respective computer, you can accelerate the device to 20  MHz . With the help of the optional SuperRamCard, the SuperCPU offers up to 16 MB memory. The computer is almost 100 percent compatible with its original configuration . It is also possible to throttle the acceleration card to 1 MHz in order to run games or applications of the C64 or C128 at normal speed.

The processor of this acceleration card is a 65816 , an advanced processor of the 6502 family. Since the card has a high power requirement, a new, specially manufactured power supply unit is required for the C64.

The card has not been sold by Creative Micro Designs since 2001 , distribution was taken over by the US company Click Here Software Co. from 2001 to 2009 , but it is unclear whether any more copies were made after 2001.
