SuperFerry

SuperFerry is a Filipino shipping company founded as WG&A SuperFerry . The company is based in Manila . It is considered to be one of the more modern Filipino shipping companies. Nevertheless, accidents happen again and again, which can be traced back to outdated ferries and a lack of implementation of the safety rules.

Like its sister companies SuperCat and Cebu Ferries , SuperFerry is owned by the transport company Aboitiz . Aboitiz emerged alongside Gothong from the William Gothong & Aboitiz group and took over their subsidiaries SuperFerry, SuperCat and Cebu Ferries. Gothong founded its own shipping company with Carlos Gothong Lines (CAGLI).

Misfortunes

Superferry 9

• On October 21, 2000, the Superferry 6 sank after a fire. The more than 1,000 passengers were saved.
• On March 9, 2006, the Superferry 12 caught fire north of the island of Cebu , but none of the 664 passengers were injured.
• On February 27, 2004, 14,116 people were killed in a bomb attack on Superferry . The terrorist organization Abu Sajaf claimed responsibility for the attack .
• On September 6, 2009, the Superferry 9 sank about 800 kilometers south of Manila on the way from General Santos to Iloilo. 957 of the almost 1,000 people on board were rescued, but there were at least nine victims.

Trivia

• The SuperFerry 12, 15, 16, 17 and 18 are the only ships in the Philippines with an escalator on board.
• SuperFerry 12 is the only remaining Philippine ship with a swimming pool. The Princess of the Stars of Sulpicio Lines , which also had a pool, sank on June 22, 2008.
• Parts of the film Pacquiao about the boxer of the same name were shot on board SuperFerry 18.
• The Titanic spoof Tataynic was made on board SuperFerry 12.
• SuperFerry is the official logistics partner of the Pinoy Dream Academy .
• SuperFerry is the only shipping line that offers network games on board.
