Cebu Ferries

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Cebu Ferries was a Filipino shipping company based in Cebu City . At the time it was the fourth largest shipping company in the country.

Cebu Ferries was a subsidiary of the consortium William Gothong & Aboitiz (WG&A). When the consortium split up, Cebu Ferries, like 2GO , SuperFerry and SuperCat , became part of the Aboitiz Transport Systems Corporation (ATS) , which in turn belonged to the Aboitiz group. However, when Aboitiz decided to focus on the energy sector around 2010, the logistics division in the form of ATS was to be sold to competitor Negros Navigation Co. Inc. (NENACO) . A first attempt in 2009 failed when NENACO's parent company got into financial turmoil in the wake of the financial crisis . The sale was finally completed in early 2011. This takeover was financed by NENACO with capital from the Netherlands-based company investment fund China-ASEAN Marine . China-ASEAN Marine is backed by the China Export-Import Bank .

In the years that followed, NENACO's shipping activities were merged under the 2GO brand, so that the former Cebu Ferries is now part of the 2GO Travel division within the 2GO Group .
