Superfinal

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The superfinal is used in certain countries to determine the master in the sport of floorball .

background

In order to boost the number of spectators in the finals and to ensure more fans in the stadiums, numerous national associations have given thought to deciding the championship no longer in a best-of series, but in a single final game. In Sweden, the championship has been brought about in a single playoff game since 2001. The quarter and semi-finals will continue to be held in the best-of series. The final game will be held in a separate location.

The Swiss championship has also been decided in this mode since the 2014/15 season .

Characteristic

What all superfinals have in common:

  • The winner is whoever wins a final game
  • If a game ends in a draw, overtime and, if necessary, the penalty shoot-out will make the decision

Advantages and disadvantages of a superfinal

advantages

  • There is no home advantage for a team, as the superfinal is set at a neutral location determined by the league.
  • More spectators at a game, which also creates a better atmosphere in the arena.

disadvantage

  • It is not the whole season that decides, but a single game between champions and runners-up.
  • No home games for the finalists: Compared to the past, the finalists have no additional income from a best-of series. There are therefore no more than four home games.
  • The decision depends heavily on the form of the day.
