Superior Rötz

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Superiorat Rotz is a former branch of the Augustinian Hermits monastery of the monastery Schönthal in Rötz in Bavaria in the diocese of Regensburg.

history

The settlement was established in 1297 when Otto III. and Stephan I , dukes of Lower Bavaria, transferred the right of patronage to the Schönthal monastery for the parish in Rötz. After conflicts during the Reformation, the population resisted the monks who opposed Lutheran teachings. In 1559 the settlement was therefore closed. In 1631 the Augustinian hermits came back to Rötz in the course of the Counter Reformation . In 1803 the branch was dissolved in the course of secularization . From then on the rectory was inhabited by secular clergy.
