Superation

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Superation is the ability to summarize details into a whole. This creates an abstraction of complex facts. The overriding wholeness is called a super sign.

to form

There are basically two types of superation:

  • The class- forming superation abstracts a set of concepts by neglecting distinguishing features of the concepts. One example is swim chest and back swim , which can be abstracted into the super sign swimming . When it comes to class formation, the new term contains less information than its individual parts. In mathematics, a class-forming superposition can also mean that the class term serves as an abstraction of common properties of many objects and thus the operation with these objects is simplified. “Five” is superimposed on all sets with five elements. “Five plus five equals ten” then applies regardless of the nature of the elements. In this context, one speaks of an objectifying abstraction. “Five” becomes the subject of further thoughts (here the operation with superposed objects).
  • The aim of the complex- forming superation is to combine a set of terms under a new generic term. A soccer team could serve as an example. Here the elements of a team - goalkeeper, libero, defender etc. - are replaced by the super symbol football team . The super sign of a complex formation has a higher information content than its individual parts.
